Instow is a very pretty seaside village on the Taw/Torridge estuary overlooking Appledore on the other side of the river. Although small, it has everything you will need for your holiday, whether shopping at Johns' supermarket, playing on the sandy beach or enjoying a drink or meal in one of the many bars and restaurants. You will not really need to leave Instow for the duration of your stay!.

Instow is a pretty, unspoilt seaside village with large stretches of sandy beaches and dunes. Fishermen’s cottages nestle against shops and a good selection of pubs and restaurants. The local village store and delicatessen is superb. All this is within walking distance of Redland House.

Instow is on estuary where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet, between the villages of Westleigh and Yelland and on the opposite bank of Appledore.

The Tarka Trail passes through Instow, providing an easy means for people to arrive by foot or on bike. This section of the Trail is also part of the South West Coast Path offering longer walks along the coast.

Tapeley Park
Tapeley Park stands on a hill overlooking Instow and the estuary. Tapeley Park is the home of the Christie family, well known for their operatic connections and their links to Glyndebourne. The House has a collection of operatic costumes, as well as fine furnishings and porcelain.

The gardens at Tapeley Park are the main attraction. The grounds have a stunning collection of tender shrubs and palms, all laid out in terraces on the sheltered hillside - presenting the visitor with stunning panoramas of the gardens and the estuary beyond.

Attempt the Tarka Trail walk or ride along the banks of the River Torridge, the 3 miles to Bideford on towards Torrington. Admire the well preserved Railway Signal Box, with most of its equipment still intact. Or cycle eastwards following the River Taw to Barnstaple.
